UFC 262: The Surprise Welterweight Match-up Edwards vs Diaz

There was a bit of a surprise on Monday as it was announced that Leon Edwards would be taking on Nate Diaz. Most people and betting sites had the odds that Diaz would be fighting Jorge Masvidal sometime later in the year.

By the time the UFC 262 rolls around on May 15th, it will have been over a year and a half since Diaz has been in a fight, and that fight was only his second since 2016.

As you can imagine the odds makers have Edwards as a heavy favorite. Depending on where you looked Diaz was coming in as the underdog at between +220 to +285. Something to think about if you are looking for a nice payout.

This fight could be a first in a few ways, not just Diaz’s first fight in a long time, but it will be the first co-main event in UFC history. Not only that it will be a non-title 5 rounder!

Edwards has built up an impressive record of 28-5, and has not lost since 2015, although his last fight did end due to a poke in the eye of Belal Muhammad. While Diaz has not had quite the same success over his career, he has always been very popular with the fans.

If you are wondering how he got the fight? Well, he trolled Edwards on Twitter, and Edwards called him out.

“Nate just dribbled for an hour about wanting to fight at 170 against winners… let’s see it then @NateDiaz209. 8 fight win streak and #3 in the world. Let’s go if you still think you’re a real one”, Leon twitted.

Looks like another Twitter feud is on.

For now, though, we will just have to wait and see if Diaz can beat the odds.
