Stepping Up: Holland Volunteers to Fight Vettori on Short Notice

Another quick replacement headliner was needed for the upcoming UFC on April 10 on ABC. Marvin Vettori was scheduled to fight Darren Till in an all European match-up. That was until Till sustained a broken collar-bone during training with less than 2 weeks to the fight.

The number 6th ranked Vettori has had a run of bad luck with his opponents having to cancel on short notice, but it looks like he finally caught a break. Hard striking Kevin Holland immediately volunteered to fight Vettori.

Holland is just coming off of a decision defeat against #4 ranked Derek Brunson and he is looking for a quick redemption. The defeat ended his 5 fight winning streak but he is looking to bounce back in a big way. With only 8 days to prepare and a scant 10 days since his loss, Holland will still be riding a wave of emotion into the fight.

Not to be outdone on the emotional side, Vettori has a lot of built-up frustration with all the fights being canceled on him. There is no doubt he will be looking to take all that frustration out on Holland. Just check out his comments on Twitter:

“Always do my part 100% and these bunch of p***ies can’t make it. I’m next in line for the title, whoever has something to say show the f**k up in 2 weeks so I can whoop your ass and shut you off for good.”

Whether Vettori is next in line or not the odds makers have him as the favorite, with Vettori -165 over Holland +215. That being said, don’t count out Holland’s striking ability to put Vettori down. With both fighters pretty evenly matched this should be a good one.
