At UFC Fight Night 191 Darren Till was submitted by no.5 ranked middleweight Derek Brunson in the third round of their fight. The fight started will Till being the aggressive guy. He looked sharp and was landing the better shots. Derek Bunson was slightly holding back. Derek found his perfect moment in the third round of the fight. He took Till down and landed some good shots. He then took his back and synched in a deep rare naked choke. According to Michael, he feels that the pre-existing injury might have played a slight role in Till’s loss.

“I went backstage to see Darren after the fight, he was very disappointed of course, but he was a man and holding it together,” Bisping said about Till on BT Sport. “He was frustrated and understandably so. I spent about 30 minutes with him and Colin Heron, just talking to him and giving him some advice. Perhaps I’m breaking guy code here but there was an injury coming into that fight, he tore his ACL about 10 weeks ago and he never mentioned it.”

“It’s an excuse, it’s a reason, whatever you want to call it. He never mentioned it, and I’m sure Derek had problems, as well. But certainly with that kind of injury – and he said he was having all kinds of medical treatment leading up to the fight – of course, with that injury, it would’ve hampered his performance. But still, you can’t take away from Derek Brunson on that night. Darren chose to step in.”

Michael Bisping Wants Darren Till To Go Back To The Welterweight Division

“It’s another loss on his record and it’s further halting his progression to becoming champion of the world,” Bisping told BT Sport. “But what I will say is this in terms of encouragement: He’s only 28 years old. I had many ups and downs throughout my career and maybe some tweaks. I’m not suggesting he leaves Team Kaobon, but maybe go somewhere where they have a heavier influence on wrestling, certainly on jiu-jitsu as well.

“With absolute respect, the ground game could have been a little better tonight. No shame in the takedowns – Derek Brunson is a strong wrestler. He’s built his entire career on that. But I thought when it hit the ground, (Till) could have done some things a little better.”

“I think perhaps a move back down to welterweight (is what he needs). When you look at Derek Brunson compared to him, Derek Brunson is a much bigger guy. I’m not talking height-wise. Height-wise, they’re very similar. But when you look at the frame – and with the frame and with that muscle, comes a lot of strength – certainly when you’re fighting guys like Derek Brunson when their whole M.O. is to take you down. Of course, technique comes into play. But a lot of what comes into play is strength. Once you get into these clinch positions, it comes down to power, and Derek kind of outmuscled him in those situations, as well,” Bisping said.
