Dane White discussed the targeted booking in an interview with TSN. White also mentioned that the fight will be headling this event in November. Max vs Yair was scheduled to take place on July 17 in Las Vegas. However, the fight was pulled from the card after Holloway suffered an undisclosed injury. The UFC was looking to rebook the fight quickly but due to the Injury which Max suffered the fight was delayed.

It is a very rare occasion when Max pulls out of a fight. The last time he pulled out of a fight was when he was scheduled to defend his UFC Featherweight title at UFC 226 against Brian Ortega. However, he was pulled from the fight due to “concussion like symptoms”. After a few months, he faced Brian Ortega in the main event at UFC 231 in Toronto, Canada on December 8, 2018. Holloway won the fight via TKO at the end of the fourth round by doctor stoppage.

Max Holloway

Holloway was riding an amazing 13 fight winning streak when he jumped up a weight class to fight Dustin Poirier for the interim UFC lightweight championship. Max lost the back-and-forth fight against Dustin by unanimous decision. Holloway then came back down to featherweight. He fought against former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar was scheduled a third time and they fought at UFC 240. He won the fight by unanimous decision, successfully defending his featherweight title for the third time.

Max Holloway

In his fourth title defense, Holloway faced Alexander Volkanovski in December at UFC 245. He lost the fight via unanimous decision, ending his featherweight reign. That ended his long reign at the featherweight division. He then went on to rematch Volkanovski at UFC 251. The fight was very close but many had scored the fight for Max. The results shocked everyone including UFC president Dana White, as the fight was won by Volkanovski.

Max is now coming off a dominant win over Calvin Kattar at UFC on ABC 1. In that fight, Holloway set the UFC single-fight records for total strikes landed and attempted, significant strikes landed and attempted, strike differential, distance strikes landed, significant head strikes landed and significant body strikes landed. His fourth-round also set the record for strikes and significant strikes landed.

Yair Rodriguez

Yair has been scheduled to fight multiple times in recent years but his fights get canceled. Yair vs Zabit is the fight that has been scheduled three times till now but never took place. Rodriguez faced Jeremy Stephens on September 21, 2019, in the main event at UFC on ESPN+ 17. The bout ended in a “No Contest” just 15 seconds into the first round after Rodriguez accidentally hit Stephens in the left eye and he was unable to continue the fight after that.

He then rematched Jeremy Stephens in a rematch at UFC on ESPN 6. He won the fight via unanimous decision. In December 2020, the UFC anti-doping commission, USADA announced that Rodriguez had been suspended for 6 months. He was for failing to notify USADA of his whereabouts and being unavailable for drug testing. His last impressive win was against Chan Sung Jung. Rodriguez won the fight by knockout via reverse elbow at 4 minutes 59 seconds in the fifth round and it was the latest knockout in UFC history.
