UFC 264 main event, between Dustin Poirier and Conor Mcgregor, ended via doctor stoppage. The fight just lasted 5 mins and had to come to an end in a way that no one even saw coming. Going into the third fight there were many stakes at line apart from their rivalry. The pair of these two elite fighters first fought at UFC 178 in 2014, where Conor got the win via first-round KO. They meet again after seven years at UFC 257 in 2021 and Dustin avenged his loss via KO in the second round of the fight.

The trilogy fight took place in the main event of UFC 264 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+. Conor started the fight with a spinning back kick just like the way he did in their first fight. He landed a couple of good leg kicks but Dustin landed some good punches and took him down. Dustin did an amazing job at the ground and pound and landed some vicious elbows. He let Conor get up at the end of the round and following that while throwing a punch Conor twisted his ankle and broke it. The doctor came to check-in and waved off the fight.

Right after UFC 264 wrapped, UFC president Dana White made it clear that the fourth fight between these two warriors will happen in the future.
“The fight didn’t get finished,” White told the reporters at the post-fight press conference. “You can’t have a fight finish that way. We’ll see how this whole thing plays out. Who knows how long Conor’s out, so Poirier will do his thing until Conor’s ready.”

Dana White stated that UFC will try to book Dustin Poirier vs Charles Oliveira for the lightweight championship next as Conor won’t be available for the next couple of months.
“You can’t do the hypotheticals in this sport,” White said. “It’s all about timing, what’s going on, what’s happens since then. Conor goes into surgery tomorrow. We don’t know long how he’s going to be out. How much his rehab and therapy he’s going to need.”

Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier also didn’t hesitate from expecting the fact that he will face Conor Mcgregor again instead he was more than happy to fight again as he felt he couldn’t get the chance to finish Mcgregor this time.

“We are going to fight again whether it’s in the octagon or on the sidewalk,” Poirier said. You don’t say the stuff he said. … My wife is solid as a rock. I’m not worried about that. That’s noise. He was saying he was going to kill me. You don’t say stuff like that – that he was going to murder me. Don’t say stuff about people’s wives either, but I know that that’s zero-chance. There is a chance somebody could die. You don’t say that. You don’t wish that on anybody.”

In the octagon interview with Joe Rogan, Conor Mcgregor said that this rivalry with Dustin is not over and he was ready to fight him anywhere possible.
“I was boxing the bleeding head off him and kicking the bleeding leg off him – the usual shite to close this distance,” McGregor said. “This is not over. If I have to take this outside with him, I’ll go outside. I don’t give a bollocks.”
