In a recent ESPN QNA session, Dustin Poirier revealed his toughest opponent to date. The answer was not surprising as he took the name of the most dominant fighter in the UFC ever, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“For a few years now, I think 155 has been one of, if not the toughest, division in the UFC,” Poirier said in an ESPN+ Q&A session hosted by UFC correspondent Laura Sanko. “It’s been top-heavy for a lot of years, with a lot of contenders waiting for their shot. And now there are new guys in the mix and it’s growing stronger. But right off the top, I don’t know. I think Khabib would, but he’s not in the mix right now. Maybe Islam (Makhachev) – similar style.

“He’s just so advanced,” Poirier said of Nurmagomedov on American Top Team’s Punchin’ In podcast. “And his feet are like hands. His foot sweeps and the way it breaks you down, it’s good. He’s good – so good.

“I got smothered, and my goal was to turn it into a fight. I wanted it to be a fight, and he just smothered me and did what he does and I couldn’t stop it. I’ve been grappling a long time.”

Dustin Poirier Says Max Holloway Is The Most Skilled Opponent

Dustin was also asked about who was the most skilled opponent he has ever fought inside the octagon. The answer was quite surprising considering the guys he has fought including Mcgregor, Gaethje, Alvarez, Khabib. According to Dustin, the most skilled guy he has ever fought in the former featherweight champion, Max Holloway. Dustin and Max have fought each other twice with both the fights going Dustin’s way.

“I fought a lot of really good guys and beat a lot of really good guys – probably Max Holloway,” Poirier said in an ESPN+ Q&A session hosted by UFC correspondent Laura Sanko.

“Just his grit,” Poirier said. He matched the grit that I bring, which I don’t think is easy to do and his durability was amazing. He took some heavy shots. I knew he was hurt multiple times however every time the bell rang he answered it and he came out ready to scrap, and I’m thankful for it because I learned a lot in that fight.”
Dustin Poirier is now getting ready for his next fight. His next bout would be a title fight against the champion Charles Oliveira though nothing is official yet.
