UFC president Dana White has hinted that Colby Covington will be Kamaru Usman’s next opponent, he said, “It makes sense” but still has not “officially” signed off on the match-up. This has led to some speculation as to who exactly will be the next opponent for the “Nigerian NIghtmare”.

Of course it wouldn’t be the UFC without Connor McGregor slinging some mud to stir up controversy. After Usman defeated Masvidal at UFC 261 McGregor took to social media posting,

“Usman even copying my shots now,” McGregor tweeted. “Am I to fight this guy at some stage? I think so. Can’t be copying my words and my shots and not get a smack for it. I like 170. It’s mine soon.”

After a little more back-and-forth Usman finished with

“I offered you the fight and you went missing. Let’s stay humble young man. I already took your pride. Don’t make me take your whiskey too.”

As it stands now McGregor needs to take off his business at UFC 264 in his trilogy against Dustin Poirier. A win gives him a title shot for the lightweight championship, a loss and he might just move up a weight class for a fight against Usman. I am sure Dana White would love that payday.

Covington was asked about McGregor’s “threat” to move up a weight class to take on Usman during a recent interview on What the Heck, he shared his thoughts on not just Mcgregor.

“I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard about it and that’s obviously just Conor trying to get some hype, get some headlines. Come on, dude, the guy just got knocked out by ‘Dustin Sorry-ier.’ Come on, are you serious?” … “You’re getting beat up by gatekeeper lightweights and now you want to come to the top of the 170 welterweight division?”

Adding, “He’s just doing that to grab attention, to grab headlines, make people think he’s being taken seriously because honestly, he’s a joke. He’s the laughingstock in the MMA community.…… He’s done.”

When asked who he thinks will win the Trilogy, Covington figures it will be Poirier, but he has no love for the guy to be sure.

“Yeah, and that’s not saying like Dustin Sorry-ier is any good or like, is anything special,” Covington said of Poirier, “He’s a jobber, that’s the definition of what Dustin Sorry-ier is.” He said of his former teammate”….“So don’t act like you’re special just because you beat ‘Conman McGregor’ after his time and when he was washed up.”

The line on Covington opened at +190 and has dropped already to +230. For the first fight it opened at +230 and rose to a respectable +130. Usman has opened at -255 (-300 last time) and now sits at -270 (-220 at fight time). Look to prop bets and parlays to make a profit.

Usman has been nothing short of spectacular in his last two fights and seems to only be getting stronger. “Chaos” will need to pull out something special to win this one.
