UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is set to defend his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier. The champ Charles will fight Poirier at UFC 269. UFC 269 will take place on December 11, 2021, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card will stream on ESPN+ pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN/ESPN+. A UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship bout between the current champion Amanda Nunes who is also the current UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion) and The Ultimate Fighter bantamweight winner Julianna Pena is expected to take place at the event. The pairing was previously scheduled to take place at UFC 265. But, on July 29, the bout was pulled from that event after Nunes tested positive for COVID-19.
A UFC Flyweight Championship trilogy between current champion Brandon Moreno and former champion Deiveson Figueiredo is targeted for UFC 269. The pairing first met at UFC 256 in December which ended in a majority draw. Their second meeting took place at UFC 263, where Moreno captured the title by submission in the third round.
Also Former Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will be challenging Pedro Munhoz. The fight will be an important one considering the landscape of the bantamweight division. The bantamweight division is the most stacked at the moment.
Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier
Charles Oliveira last fought former three-time Bellator Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler. The duo fought for the vacant UFC Lightweight Championship. Former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov had previously announced his retirement. Despite being dropped by Chandler in the first round, Oliveira went on to win the fight via technical knockout early in the second round. He then went on to claim the UFC Lightweight Championship.[With the knockout win, he broke yet another record, recording the most finishes in UFC history.
Charles is very confident in his skillset and says he might KO Dustin at UFC 269. The fight will be Charles’s first title defense. He will be entering the fight while riding a 9 fight winning streak.
Dustin Poirier is coming off two back-to-back wins over Conor Mcgregor. The duo settled their rivalry inside the octagon. The first fight was in 2014. Mcgregor won by KO. The second fight took place at UFC 257 with Poirier getting his revenge. In the third fight, Conor McGregor broke his foot in the last moments of the first round. Dustin went on to win by TKO via doctor stoppage. Dustin Poirier will be fighting his second title fight. He previously fought Khabib for the title and lost the fight in the third round. The fight at UUFC 269 will be an intriguing matchup as it will be a striker facing off against a submission artist.
