UFC 269- Poirier vs Oliveira

UFC 269 will feature Charles Oliveira defending his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier. Both of them have had a long championship road. This fight will be a historic fight between two of the fighters with most fights before winning an undisputed title. Charles Oliveira already achieved this goal when he became the champion with 28 fights in the UFC. He won the belt after a long road of ups and downs. Now Dustin will be fighting his 27 fight in the UFC and he hasn’t won the title yet.

 Charles Oliveira

Charles Olivera faced former three-time Bellator Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler for the vacant UFC Lightweight Championship, following former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement, while headlining UFC 262 on May 15, 2021. Even after being dropped by Chandler in the first round, Oliveira won the fight. He won the fight via technical knockout early in the second round to claim the UFC Lightweight Championship. With the knockout win, he broke yet another record, recording the most finishes in UFC history.

Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier recently fought Conor Mcgregor on two back-to-back occasions. As the first bout of his new contract, Poirier faced Conor McGregor in a rematch at UFC 257. He won the fight via technical knockout in the second round, becoming the first person to defeat McGregor by knockout. This win earned him the Performance of the Night award.

Poirier faced McGregor for the third time on July 10, 2021, at UFC 264. Poirier won the fight in round one via technical knockout after the ringside doctor stopped the bout. McGregor suffering a broken tibia, rendering him unable to continue.
This title fight is very much important to the division. After a long time, the champion will be facing the no.1 contender in the division.

Michael Chandler and Justin Gatehje will also be squaring just one month before this fight at UFC 268 in November. These four fighters are the top fighters in the division at the moment. Followed by Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev, who are just one or two wins away from getting their title shot. The winner between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier will be the best lightweight as a new lightweight era will begin.
