UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski defended his featherweight title against Brian Ortega at UFC 266. UFC 266 took place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card streamed on ESPN+ pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN News/ESPN+. Ortega was the no.2 ranked fighter in the division. It was his second title fight. Alexander won the fight via decision after a spectacular performance. Brian Ortega had his moments in the fight but it was the champ who dominated most parts of their battle. The fight had its share of back-and-forth moments, which made this fight a sure fight of the year contender.

Now after the fight Alexander talked about his thoughts on the match and how it went. He also talked about his future challenges and which opponent he would like to face next.

Alexander Volkanovski talks about the fight

“I talked about getting the finish, and I wanted to get the finish, but at least it was a war, at least it was entertainment,” Volkanovski told MMA Junkie and other reporters at the post-fight news conference. “Straight after, I was like ‘F*ck, I didn’t get the finish,’ you know what I mean? But then you come out and everyone’s just absolutely buzzin’g”

Alexanders Talks About Brian Ortega’s Submission Attempts

“It was deep, it was ‘Oh f*ck, I’m about to lose the belt’ deep,” Volkanovski said about the choke. “That was as deep as it can get, no sh*t. As deep as it could get. I remember I was making f*cking weird noises.”

“I thought I was going to break him,” Volkanovski said. “He was broken after the third round, but the ref decided to give him a minute to ask him questions. Brian wasn’t answering them right, I was looking. … He couldn’t even see where he was going. I was like, ‘That’s it, it’s over.’ I go in there, start putting pressure, and he’s firing back just like he was like nothing happened. He’s tough, he’s durable, and credit to him.”
“We’re gonna talk to the family, talk to the team and see what’s our best move,” Volkanovski said. “Maybe we ride it out here, just smash some fights out, everyone just build everything up and kick some ass.”
“I wanted to get the finish,” Volkanovski said. “I’ve been talking about getting that finish. But at least it was a war.”

Alexander on Conor Mcgregor’s comments

Former Featherweight and Lightweight champion Conor Mcgregor criticized Alex’s perfect and said some mean thing to them on Twitter about it. Alexander handled it very well and even joked about it in the post-fight press conference. But he made sure he realizes Conor that there are some consequences to this. He asked if Conor wants to fight they can do it at any weight class.

“I heard about (the tweets). Sounded like he was on the piss. Good for him.” Volkanovski said. “(The tweets said) something about sharting or fighting. It didn’t really make sense. It’s Conor, man. Conor doing Conor things. I don’t know if he wants to come back down to 145lbs, obviously, that will never happen. That would have stung him a little bit (referring Jose Aldo and Max Holloway as the two greatest featherweights), especially while he’s on the piss, you know? Anyways, I’m gonna be on the piss, maybe you’ll see some weird f*cking tweets from me too. We’ll see what happens.”
